SUNDAY FEBRUARY 4TH 2013
I'm weighing in at between 79 and 80kgs today - I'm not losing weight as quickly as I'd like yet but pushing hard. Although I've cut down significantly on junk food and over-eating, I think I may have to get a bit more deliberate with my diet if I'm to get to 75kg's...I'm suffering from a sore rib cage from todays sparring with Liam btw!
Also had a good mitts workout wit the bro Rhys on Friday, he's taught/reminded/encourged some good tips like:
_Stay relaxed
_Keep bringing yor fists home to your chin
_Don't keep the back leg straight
_When doing mitts, keep them close to the face and body to keep it realistic
_DONT WORRY ABOUT POWER, FOCUS ON TECHNIQUE AND BEING RELAXED!!!

SPARRING PREPARATION
After some cardio, punch bag and mittwork, Liam and I got into some sparring drills and practice - first concentrating on body sparring (above) and then head sparring. At some point in the near future I'll put them together but for now I'm just learning the ropes! With the body sparring defence we were pretending that the aggressor has you in the corner and is up close and punching to the body - the trick is to cover up effectively then fight your way out with some counter blows so you can get him off you and get outta there! The head sparring (below) was more about blocking in front and to the side.
Overall, the sparring felt great although I have a new found respect (#FEAR!) of the classic body/ liver shot! I don't ever want to get hit hard in the ribs/side if I can help it, although I know it's bound to happen at some stage - the body hook, when delivered powerfully is a KILLER BLOW!
