SATURDAY MARCH 23RD, 2013
Choice sparring today - we started with a quick warm-up of just stretches and 3 rounds of skipping then straight into it - I did 2 light rounds with Patricia, then 2 lots of 2 rounds with Dreyson (my 1st time sparring with him). I worked hard to keep on top of my current goals in the ring; keep moving around, jab heaps and keep my head down.
I threw a few feints that worked well - the old jab out wide to the left to make his guard follow, then throw a quick right hook to the body. Admittedly they weren't super powerful hooks, but if it were a match they'd have scored good clean points...
My guard felt more secure today, improved confidence to stand my ground.
* All in all it was the best sparring session I've had so far!
Some other good stuff this week was tips and drills with Floyd, also some from Patricia and doing some new cardio excersises like rotating a 10kg weight around from front to top to back (round and round), duck walking with 10kgs on your shoulders (killer!) and the boxing drill of throwing a 1-2 then lunging in to the left to throw a left body hook under the opponents right cross or hook - that drill got my legs burning hard just from the repeated deep stepping.
The footage above captured today is from the first two rounds with Dreyson which is okay, but I'm bummed that our second two rounds wasn't filmed because I managed to outlast him he gave up before the end of the 2nd round from exhaustion - I know, sparring isn't fighting, there's no winning and losing but hey, when you out gas someone over 20 years younger, you feel pretty damn sweet =P.
Below is some mixed footage of the others sparring today:
