Cape Brett Challenge 2015
Just got home from an awesome weekend in the Bay of Islands with family and friends for the Cape Brett Challenge. My mates Te Koha, Kim and I all entered the 17km Whangamumu Loop category and man was it HARD! It was all hills with very little flat sections at all, so although it was less than the 21km half marathons I've done it was more difficult. What a great way to get outdoors and appreciate the country though, I'm definitely up for more!
My time was 3:04 which was in the top half of the median times . I came 77th out of the total of 153 runners and 8th for my age group (35-39). I'm satisfied with the result but in all honesty was not that concerned with any competitive stuff. Imo trail runs have quite a different vibe to road running - its less about time and placing and more about the overall event - cool!
We made a weekend of it and stayed just near Bland Bay at Kirikiripawhaoa which is an awesome place! Checkout the pics below.
